The Full Story

Council for School Leadership

The Council for School Leadership (CSL) is a specialist council of the Alberta Teachers' Association.  The Alberta Teachers' Association CSL is a volunteer group of practicing school leaders that aims to promote school leadership, enhance the practice of members, and provide opportunities for school leaders across the province to connect with each other.  As a council, we organize and advertise leadership learning development opportunities throughout the year, publish peer reviewed journals, and facilitate an annual conference in Banff Alberta called uLead.

Values

Connection - We believe in the power of connection to inspire leadership, spark innovation, and build a collaborative network of current and aspiring school leaders. By fostering meaningful relationships and creating space for dialogue and recognition, we strengthen the collective capacity of our profession. Connection means intentionally cultivating a professional community

Service - We lead with a spirit of service —empowering school leaders through advocacy, support, and compassion. Service means showing up for others, offering hope and guidance, and helping to build strong partnerships rooted in empathy. Through service, we create conditions where school leaders feel valued, supported, and equipped to serve their own communities with courage and care.

Learning - We are committed to learning as a lifelong, inclusive, and transformative pursuit. As lead learners, we embrace curiosity, foster equity, and engage in professional learning that is responsive to diverse needs and grounded in research. Learning means seeking innovation, reflecting on practice, and striving for continuous improvement within a rapidly evolving educational landscape.
