Grants and Awards

The Alberta Teachers' Association offers a wide variety of grants and scholarships for active members to continue their education or pursue professional growth through attending conferences and events.  To apply for a $500 grant to attend uLead (our specialist council conference) you can click the button below.  Please note, the annual deadline for this grant is September 30, every year.

CSL Distinguished Leadership Award

The Council for School Leadership (CSL) Distinguished Leadership Award program recognizes outstanding school leaders, including principals, vice principals, assistant principals, and school jurisdiction leaders, who excel in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students and staff. This prestigious award aims to:

  • Highlight exceptional Alberta school leaders,

  • Celebrate creative, innovative, and effective leadership, and

  • Draw public attention to excellence in school leadership


Award recipients are acknowledged by their peers for their exemplary contributions to the profession. The program specifically honours school leaders who demonstrate excellence in the competencies outlined in the Alberta Leadership Quality Standard.


Winners of the CSL Distinguished Leadership Award receive a recognition plaque and are celebrated at a special dinner and ceremony on May 29, 2025, in Edmonton.

Nomination Information for the 2026-2027 School Year

  • Deadline: TBD

  • Eligibility: Nominees must be members of the Council for School Leadership (CSL) and hold the highest level of ATA membership available to them.
